Never A Dull Moment — Every Day is a Different ExperienceÂ
Do you long for something different in your work life? We understand. We've all been in a place where the workday felt like a dull and repetitive routine. In 1999, Mark Higgins started Point Monitor in his home to help companies harness technology to safely monitor and secure their fire, security, communication, and control systems. While taking care of customers is our number one priority, we are also fully committed to empowering employees to bring their creativity to work. At Point Monitor, no two days are the same, and we like it that way.Â
Use a Variety of Technology SolutionsÂ
Repetition rules the day in the security and systems solutions business, particularly if the company uses only one or two technologies. At Point Monitor, things don't work that way.Â
For example, our techs can look forward daily to creating solutions for fire alarm, access control, CCTV surveillance, network infrastructure, and building automation systems, to name a few. There's no shortage of opportunities for you to contribute your ideas while gaining industry-specific experience. While you experience a variety of different security-based technologies and bolster your skills, you can expect to come to work each day knowing that you're changing customers' lives for the better. From K-12 and university buildings to multi-family and residential clients, your work impacts how these customers can secure their properties, belongings, and those that mean the most to them.Â
Bring Your Ideas — We Welcome Them!Â
Have you ever worked in a position where you felt your voice or ideas didn't matter? The Point Monitor environment couldn't be more different. We work together to develop solutions for our customers. Since we don't approach each customer with a one-size-fits-all approach by offering off-the-shelf solutions, each customer receives customized systems solutions, allowing our team members to work together to create plans that solve their problems.Â
If there's any word to describe how we collaborate, it's synergy. Once we genuinely understand what the customer is looking for, we can brainstorm, listen to one another, consider each other's ideas, and come alongside our customers for their input. Ultimately, at Point Monitor, you can contribute to solutions that help customers find their way and counter unsuccessful attempts by other companies.Â
A Day in the Life of a Point Monitor Team MemberÂ
So, what does a day look like here at Point Monitor? What types of systems solutions will you likely encounter here? What kinds of ideas will you be contributing to? At Point Monitor, you can expect to perform a variety of tasks. Let's take a look at some frequently asked questions that require some teamwork to answer:
How can we best protect high-value assets in a high-security collectibles vault?
Our high-tech intrusion and security alarm system could help a customer avoid that late-night break-in. These monitored systems can dispatch police and notify customers within moments of a breach. Therefore, we can guarantee that our customers enjoy feeling safe and secure knowing that their valuables are constantly being protected and monitored.Â
How can we provide early warning fire and smoke detection in a historical downtown Portland building while considering obstacles and high ceilings, all while avoiding damage to the building's aesthetics?
Our fire alarm system solution checked all the boxes on this one. The wireless smoke detection system installed provides the early warning detection needed, ready at all times to report to the central station on any alarm, ensuring that all building inhabitants know of a fire and smoke threat to minimize potential damage.Â
How can we unify access control and CCTV surveillance systems for a private school when the campus buildings are not near each other and may lack connections between them?Â
This one was a bit of a doozy, but our team came together and concluded that we should use a point-to-point Wi-Fi system between buildings. Our team mounted, configured, aimed, and tested the transmitters and receivers. We also created a virtual LAN in this application, providing separate lanes for security data traffic and a dedicated hi-speed lane for each system (one for access control, one for CCTV) within the point-to-point Wi-Fi connection.
In short, when you work at Point Monitor, you can trust that each day will be unique and allow you to bring your creativity to work. If you have any questions about joining our team, check out our careers page.Â
